Creating a podcast
I tried to follow several links to learn how to create a podcast, but I kept running into dead ends, complicated instructions, or choices of muliple downloads. I do have an idea actually related to work, so I hope to figure it out eventually.
Podcasting searches
Any suggestions on good ways to search for podcasts? Only one of the links worked on the learning 2.0 list.
YouTube
Scroll down to the bottom of my posts to watch a video to advertise the King County Library's 2008 kids summer reading program, Catch the Reading Bug. It's long, but I thought it was clever. There have been thousands of views. I was surprised how easy it was to add it to my blog.
Shelfari
According to the Seattle PI, Amazon is buying Shelfari (it already owned a portion). The plot thickens.

It's a small online world after all.
Imagine my surprise when I looked at part 2 of week 8 and the assignment was to explore a website from a list of award winners - which just happened to be the list I put in a blog post last week.
I had never thought to look for websites that help you learn a foreign language. One of the innovative ideas is that speakers of different languages can help each other.
This isn't on the list, but if you haven't checked out nbcolympics.com, you should try it. I think it's a good example of the limitlessness of online applications. I've been using it to watch events I've missed - you can also look at other viewers comments while you watch. They also have videos that explain the rules and scoring of unfamiliar events, bios of athletes, and more.

Welcome
Here is my playing around with Zoho Writer. I am going to try to post this to my blog. Of course I have to try the cute stuff. I think it's interesting that they use tags instead of folders. It would be fun to play with some of the additional applications like the planner and wiki.

More websites to try out
I ran across this website with awards for web 2.0 sites. They give a short summary, so you can pick out what you might want to explore.

Library Thing
I hope Library Thing doesn't disappear. Here is a quote from an article about Amazon buying Abe and thus part of Library Thing.
AbeBooks also owns 40 percent of LibraryThing (a social app for keeping track of your books and finding other like-minded book lovers). Whereas Amazon is an investor in Shelfari. Now Amazon will own a piece of both of those competing startups.

elearning
I found this interesting. A blog on elearning brought up the question, how will web 2.o change the way we learn - see quote below.
"I have to jump in and say that I'm not so sure that there's not something along the lines of a Brain 2.0 emerging. I'm not claiming that the brain itself has changed, but instead what's changing is:
metacognition
metamemory
access to information
access to other people
access to smart systems
all of this changes what the brain needs to do. A look inside the processing of problems by the brain of someone born today when they reach 40 vs. the brain of someone who is 40 today, I would guess is going to be quite different."

Constant Change
Something I hadn't thought of before about web 2.0 was in the instructions from Learning 2.0,
"embracing constant change as a development cycle over the traditional notion of upgrades." I think this is an important concept to grasp. I know technology means constant change, but it is different from the idea of we are doing this one thing until we upgrade to this other thing. There are no definite lines.

Technorati
So, there's a big problem with technorati (OK maybe the problem is with me) but I keep trying to play around with it, but I do one search and off I go on one bunny trail after another. Speaking of, http://infoblog.infopeople.org/ has some interesting posts lately about a conference last month called Mashup the Library.
Del.icio.us
I've been using del.icio.us for several weeks now. My favorite thing about it is that I have access to the same bookmarks at home or at work. One thing I've noticed is that I have to be careful about consistency with my tags. For example, I had some tags marked library and others marked libraries that should go together. I'm thinking if I always use singular rather than plural that should help. Does anyone have other suggestions?
